We've been staying in holiday cottages for 15 years and this one topped them all. The welcome from Carol was amazing; home baked cake, bread and cheese, coffee and wine, such a lovely welcoming start. Carol was warm and welcoming. The house was beautiful and comfortable. We were warm and well provided for with everything we needed. It was clean, beautifully decorated and furnished. Can't say enough good things about it!
Berry Farmhouse is surrounded by the most beautiful unspoilt North Devon countryside and yet is just a 5 minute drive away from the small village of Petrockstowe and its village inn, The Laurels. The larger village of Merton is also only 3 miles away and provides further amenities including a garage, shop and post office, pub, sports and community centre.
The larger towns of Torrington and Hatherleigh are seven miles to the north and south respectively.

A 35 minute drive will take you to the stunning North Devon coastline, where you can choose from the famous pebble ridge backed beach at Westward Ho!, which is popular with families and water sport enthusiasts, or perhaps a stroll along the promenade at Instow, a delightful North Devon village by the sea.
Berry Farm has a long and distinguished history, prior to being part of the Clinton North Devon Estate. The first recorded owner was William de Bieri in about 1330 who built in the front field. The western part of the farm formed part of the historic Heanton Deer Park. It is also believed that the White Barn and the outside kitchen wall were built circa 1550. It is understood that the farmhouse, which has a date stone of 1636 with monogram stones AH and RH, was remodelled in the 18th and 19th centuries. The adjoining cottage was added in about 1875 for use by a game keeper. Thereafter, the house and farm were occupied as a home farm controlling a much larger acreage at that point. In July 1957 the then Lord Clinton died and in order to pay Estate duties there was a major disposal of the land in and around Merton, Huish and Petrockstow. At that time Berry Farm was tenanted and comprised one of the Estate’s larger main home farms. The farm was sold by the Estate in 1959. Thereafter it has remained in various private ownerships, having been acquired by the current vendors in 1998.
